Feeling stuck? You’re not alone. Change can feel overwhelming when you don’t know where to begin — but you don’t have to have it all figured out today. Start small. Here are a few things you can do right now to get momentum going in your life:
1️⃣ Keep Your Body Moving
This is life 101. Moving your body — even something as simple as a daily walk — gives you momentum, motivation, and clarity. The benefits are endless: better health, improved mood, and a clearer mind. No matter what, never quit on yourself.
2️⃣ Know Where You Stand
I learned this lesson from my brother, who passed away from cancer in 2015. Don’t let life sneak up on you with bad news. Have the courage to check in on where you are: physically, mentally, financially, and emotionally. Too many people tell themselves, “I’ll deal with it one day.” Make today that day.
3️⃣ Start Asking Yourself Better Questions
Change begins with honest conversations with yourself. Start asking meaningful questions like:
- If I don’t change the way I’m living, what will my life look like in six months? In two years?
- Am I truly happy with where I am?
- What’s stopping me from making changes right now?
Be honest with your answers — even if they’re uncomfortable. That’s where growth happens.
4️⃣ Create Your Own Personal Motto
Come up with a line or phrase you can read every morning — something that reminds you of who you are and what you stand for. It should be personal, meaningful, and motivating.
Mine? “Has your dad ever quit anything in his life?”
That one keeps me going.
5️⃣ Know What You Value
This is one of the simplest and most powerful exercises you can do. Write down 10 things you value most in life. Then, make sure your daily actions and productivity align with those values. When you live in alignment, everything changes.
6️⃣ Identify What Makes You Happy — and What Doesn’t
Take some time to write a list of what makes you happy and what doesn’t. You might surprise yourself with the answers. Be honest. It’s a fun, eye-opening exercise, and it can quickly show you where your time and energy should (and shouldn’t) go.
7️⃣ Understand That You May Need Help
We all want to be independent, especially as we get older. But the truth is, “You don’t know what you don’t know.”
If you’re struggling or want to accelerate your progress, think about hiring a coach, mentor, or expert. A good one is worth their weight in gold. If you can’t do it alone, admit it — and get the help you need
