Do you want to fine or much better?

Did you know 40–60% of our daily actions are habits? Good or bad, that’s the reality. Think about it: you greet a store clerk, exchange a quick “Hi, how are you? Fine, thanks.” But is “fine” how you want to live?

Life is a one-shot deal. If you care about high performance, it’s time to rethink your habits. Personally, I’d never settle for “fine” as my baseline. Sure, I feel fine sometimes, but I don’t stay there. I’ve learned how to shift my mindset quickly. Instead of “fine,” I aim for “great” or “unbelievable”—because that’s what I’m striving for. When I catch myself saying “fine,” I immediately reframe it into something better.

What you tell yourself all day shapes your life. If your mindset is half-empty, don’t expect to accomplish much. That said, being honest about where you stand is key. If you’re “fine,” figure out what “better” looks like and make a plan to get there.

Rate yourself weekly from 1 to 10. If you’re at a 6, identify what a 7 would look like and work toward it. Then plan for an 8. Your goals will differ from mine, and that’s fine—it’s about walking your own path. But if you’re stuck, look at who you spend time with. Are your friends at a 5 or 6? Your company could be holding you back.
